The Minority Leader of parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has appointed former MCE for Effutu, Zubairu Kassim, as Senior Political Advisor responsible for Constituency Affairs. The appointment took effect on October 31, 2025. In a statement, he explained that the appointment stems from a “deliberate and calculated investment in leadership excellence, bringing to the Minority Leader’s inner circle a respected public servant whose career trajectory exemplifies the intersection of technical competence, political discernment and firm commitment to democratic governance.” According to the Minority leader, the appointment of Hon Kassim reflects a sophisticated understanding that effective parliamentary opposition in Ghana’s Fourth Republic requires strategic thinking, operational excellence, institutional memory and the capacity to translate political vision into actionable policy alternatives. “As Hon Kassim assumes his responsibilities, the Office of the Minority Leader is poised to benefit from his counsel, experience and political acumen. His appointment strengthens the institutional capacity of the Minority Caucus and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in legislative representation and democratic accountability.” Kassim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from the University of Cape Coast and earned a Certificate in Logistics Management from the University of Ghana Business School. He is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at the University of Education, Winneba. Kassim boasts of a rare combination of grassroots political intelligence, administrative expertise, supply chain and logistics mastery and a demonstrated ability to navigate complex political terrain while maintaining focus on the public interest.
