Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the additional classroom buildings in three government schools in the district through videoconference on Saturday.
While the Government High School at Rosemiyapuram near Panagudi got a building at the cost of ₹47.12 lakh, the additional classroom building in Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School at Ervadi has been built on an outlay of ₹1.94 crore. The new building has been constructed at a cost of ₹2.40 crore at the Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School at Nanguneri.
Speaker M. Appavu, District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, MP C. Robert Bruce, and Chief Educational Officer Sivakumar lit the traditional lamp to mark the inauguration of the school buildings.
Mr. Appavu said the State government, besides implementing welfare schemes for ensuring unhindered school education till Class 12 and their higher education in the colleges, was imparting quality education to children by periodically upgrading the syllabus. As the heads of prestigious institutions, including Indian Space Research Organisation such as K. Sivan and Narayanan and ISRO scientists Mylswamy Annadurai, Rajaram, Arun Subbaiah, and Nihar Shaji were the products of government schools, the government was keen on maintaining this trend by creating sufficient infrastructure in the schools.
The Speaker appealed to the children to learn English and the subject of their interest as it would equip them with communication and employable skills to fetch lucrative jobs.
He said the ongoing drinking water project being implemented on an outlay of ₹438 crore would enable the Panagudi town panchayat to give drinking water connection to 12,000 houses within a couple of months.
“Moreover, work on the construction of 468 houses for the homeless poor is actively progressing in Panagudi,” he said.
