The Adamawa, Gombe, and Taraba state governments have been warned by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) of the threat of possible flood following forecasts of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the nation.
The agency’s outlook for 15 September 2025, made public on its X account @nimetnigeria(formerly Twitter), reveals that several states in the north would experience heavy rainfall.
The states are Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba, and they will experience isolated thunderstorms in the morning.
More widespread thunderstorms are expected in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and other states later in the day.
The agency noted that heavy downpours in flood-prone areas of the North-East could trigger flash floods, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared.
In the central region, cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine are expected in the morning across Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Benue, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains forecast for the afternoon and evening.
Similarly, southern states, including Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross Rive,r will see cloudy conditions with chances of rainfall in the morning, followed by moderate rains across most parts of the region later in the day.
NiMet advised motorists to drive carefully during periods of rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. The agency also cautioned that thunderstorms may cause temporary disruption of outdoor activities.
“Flash floods are likely in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe States. Thunderstorms may cause temporary disruption of outdoor activities.
“Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert, and motorists are advised to drive cautiously during rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads,” the agency stated.
