The upcoming Star Wars films include The Mandalorian & Grogu starring Pedro Pascal and Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling. However, fans of the new trilogy could have explored a story about Adam Driver's character, Ben Solo. In a new interview, the House of Gucci actor revealed that Disney didn't agree to his idea of a new film, which would be helmed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh. Here's all you need to know about The Hunt for Ben Solo. Adam Driver reveals his failed Star Wars film with Steven Soderbergh In an interview with the Associated Press, Driver revealed that he was keen to reprise his role as Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo. He shared, "I always was interested in doing another Star Wars. I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him." While the new trilogy ended in 2019 with a redemption arc for Kylo and his apparent death, Driver still felt there was unfinished business with the character. Driver took a concept to Ocean's Eleven filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, and he developed a story with screenwriter Rebecca Blunt, which was later pitched to the team at Lucasfilm. Contagion screenwriter Scott Z. Burns was also brought on board to write the screenplay. The actor said of the script, "one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of." Driver recalled, "We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it." However, the sequel, which would explore Kylo's survival, hit a big snag. But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that," said Driver. Still, he was surprised that the top bosses would turn down their well-thought-out plan. “We wanted to be judicial about how to spend money and be economical with it, and do it for less than most but in the same spirit of what those movies are, which is handmade and character-driven. Empire Strikes Back being, in my opinion, the standard of what those movies were. But he is, to me, one of my favorite directors of all time. He lives his code, lives his ethics, doesn’t compromise," the actor explained. Traffic director Soderbergh confirmed his involvement and added, "I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it." The third film in the trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, only made a profit of $48.3 million. The Force Awakens had a profit of $500.2 million, while The Last Jedi had $324 million.
