AD FEATURE: Inspection findings reflect Bridgewater School’s values and vision

Bridgewater School is celebrating the findings of a recent report from the Independent School Inspectorate (ISI), following a full inspection of the Worsley-based school in September 2025. The inspection explored every aspect of school life, confirming that all standards were met and highlighting the school’s strong sense of community, inclusive ethos, and commitment to helping every pupil flourish. Inspectors said: “The school’s value of inclusivity is integral to all aspects of the school’s provision. The school community is characterised by mutual respect and an inherent understanding that everyone is treated as a unique individual.” A reflection of the school’s ethos and community The Inspectorate’s findings reflect the dedication and teamwork that define Bridgewater, recognising the contributions of teachers, support staff, pupils, and the leadership team. Inspectors observed: “Leaders have a clear vision for the school which is driven by their overriding ambition for pupils to flourish and achieve to the best of their abilities.” Leadership was recognised for fostering a culture of listening and collaboration, with inspectors noting that “listening is embedded into the leadership culture” and that pupils’ voices “have a positive influence on the development of the school.” Quality of education Across the curriculum, inspectors observed the quality of teaching and learning, noting that “teachers have a detailed understanding of what pupils know and can do, enabling them to extend pupils’ understanding effectively.” Inspectors also highlighted how “effective curriculum planning supports pupils to transfer skills and knowledge from one subject area to another with confidence.” Bridgewater’s enrichment and extra-curricular programme was described as “wide-ranging,” “providing considerable challenge and motivation.” Programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award were recognised for their “positive impact on pupils’ social and leadership skills as well as their self-confidence.” Supporting wellbeing and personal growth The school’s nurturing environment and strong pastoral care were noted throughout the report. Through PSHE, assemblies and enrichment activities, pupils “gain an understanding of different cultural and social perspectives of the world” and “develop a clear understanding of their social responsibilities.” Inspectors added: “Leaders actively promote the emotional wellbeing of pupils through a well-established system of pastoral care which supports pupils on an individual basis. “The school actively promotes pupils’ confidence and self-esteem through providing extensive opportunities to support their emotional wellbeing.” Inspectors also recognised how pupils “develop their mental resilience through physical activities which have a positive effect on their mental health,” and that younger children “make rapid progress in developing motor skills which enhance their coordination.” Safeguarding and care Bridgewater’s strong safeguarding culture was also highlighted, with inspectors finding that pupil safety is given the highest priority. Inspectors said: “Staff know the pupils well and are able to identify changes of behaviour or signs that could possibly indicate a concern. As a consequence, pupils feel well looked after and safe in the school community.” A community that inspires Headteacher Judy Nairn said: “We are thrilled with the outcome of this inspection. “The report captures the spirit of Bridgewater - a community where pupils feel valued, supported and inspired to be the best version of themselves. “This is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, the enthusiasm of our students and the trust of our families.” See for yourself For families interested in discovering the benefits of a Bridgewater education, the school is holding a Whole School Open Day on Saturday, November 8.
