Accused Headmaster Was Harassed, He Lost Temper: UP Minister On Sitapur Assault Incident

Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Technical Education, Ashish Patel, on Friday condemned the recent assault incident involving a headmaster and a basic education officer (BEO) in Sitapur, describing it as “extremely unfortunate.”
In a post on X, Patel wrote, “The Sitapur teacher incident is highly unfortunate. Teacher Shri Brijendra Verma, who was a diligent, honest, and regular school-attending teacher. He was harassed to such an extent that he lost his temper. Holding the teacher unilaterally guilty based solely on a 20-second video clip is not just or appropriate.”

“Based on the observation of all CCTV footage from entering the BSA office to the very end, strict action should be taken against whoever is guilty. After all, what circumstances arose that forced a teacher to commit this act—the truth of which must come to light,” he further wrote in Hindi.
The minister added that he had spoken to the state’s Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh regarding the incident. He said Singh assured him that the matter would be investigated impartially and strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
“In this regard, I have spoken with Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh ji; he has assured that a fair investigation of the incident will be conducted, and strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the matter,” he stated.
The assault incident took place earlier this week in Sitapur district, where a headmaster allegedly assaulted a basic education officer (BEO) inside his office. According to officials, the altercation occurred during an inquiry into a complaint filed by a staff member of the Nadwa Primary School in Mahmudabad area of the district.
Speaking to the media, BEO Akhilesh Pratap Singh stated that headmaster Brijendra Verma had been accused of harassing an assistant teacher at the school. Singh said he summoned Verma to his office to address the complaint and initiated an inquiry in the presence of both parties.
Singh claimed that when everyone present accused the headmaster of being guilty, he suddenly flew into a rage, pulled off his belt, and attacked him.
Following the incident, Verma was taken into police custody and suspended from his post with immediate effect, officials confirmed.
