A patient, Sk. Madipadu Nagulu (40), allegedly died due to lack of medical aid at Achampeta Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Palnadu district on Sunday.
According to the locals, family members rushed Nagulu to the PHC when he suffered an epilepsy. As there was no doctor in the clinic, nurse Seshamma reportedly asked the attendants to shift the patient to Sattenapalli dispensary.
As Nagulu’s condition deteriorated, he died at the PHC. Alleging that the duty doctor was not available at the clinic and the patient died due to the lack of treatment, the family members staged a dharna in front of the PHC.
Tension mounted at the hospital, when Nagulu’s wife, Jaan Bi and his children threatened to pour petrol over themselves and end their lives. However, police pacified the victims. The victim’s family members raised slogans demanding action against the PHC doctor and staff. The police registered a case and took up investigation.
