Above-normal temperatures in the mid-80s with dry conditions are forecast to continue this week in Omaha and eastern Nebraska.
“It’s going to be pretty quiet the next couple of days,” Jesse Castillo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley, said Sunday. “If you have the time, you definitely want to make sure you can get outside.”
Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid- to upper 80s this week, Castillo said, about 10 degrees above the normal high for this time of year. Typically, Omaha averages a high of 75 with a low of 52.
That should be good news for those looking forward to the first Handmade Parade through the Benson business district on Friday. The parade is a community celebration of art and expression.
The free event will feature a variety of handcrafted elements, including giant puppets, DIY floats, costumes and banners. Participants will include artists, schools and community organizations.

Pre-parade activities are scheduled in the Benson business district from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the parade scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Activities will continue after the parade until 10 p.m.
The high temperature Monday in Omaha is pegged at 86 degrees. In the area of the Nebraska-South Dakota border, the high is forecast to reach 90 degrees.
“There will be a little bit of a cooldown Tuesday with a high of 83,” Castillo said. “That will be followed by temperatures warming back up in the mid-80s all the way through weekend.”
A southwest air flow will bring slight precipitation chances to the area late Friday, but Omaha is unlikely to receive any rainfall, he said.
“The next, best shot of seeing any kind of rainfall will come maybe Friday night into Saturday,” Castillo said. “But the chance (for rain) is only about 15% and then that should come far north of the Omaha area.”
