A 5.65 megawatt-peak (MWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic system will power two manufacturing facilities of electronics company TDK Philippines Corp. (TPC) in Laguna, thanks to a recent partnership with Aboitiz Upgrade Solar Inc. (AUSI).
AUSI will install more than 9,000 solar panels in both facilities. The two parties issued a statement yesterday, stating that the project will generate nearly eight million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually.
The companies declined to provide details, however, on the cost of development, as well as the proposed timeline of the project.
AUSI is a joint venture between Aboitiz Power Corp. and Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP) to develop, build, and operate distributed solar solutions catering to large commercial and industrial consumers.
“Through this collaboration with TPC, we are proving that rooftop solar solutions can deliver both environmental responsibility and business performance to critical industries at scale,” Pieterjan Vanbuggenhout, UGEP chief operating officer said.
Meanwhile, Gina Camacho-David, Aboitiz Power vice president for retail energy sales, solutions, and services, said that the partnership helps “contribute to the TDK Transformation and accelerate progress for a sustainable future.”
TDK Corp. is headquartered in Japan and is involved in electronic materials and components.
“By integrating renewable energy into our operations, we are taking concrete steps to reduce our carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and contribute to a cleaner energy future for the
Philippines,” Masatoshi Shindoh, TPC president and chief executive officer, said. “This also drives innovation in materials, processes, and software technologies that advance the transition to a sustainable future. ”
Aboitiz Power is currently one of the most significant power producers in the Philippines and has set a capital expenditure budget of P78.1 billion for this year.
