The 24-year-old left-handed batter from Amritsar, who made his T20I debut for India on July 6, 2024, against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, needed 11 runs in the ongoing fifth India-Australia T20I at The Gabba in Brisbane to complete 1000 runs in T20Is, and he achieved the objective during the fourth over of India’s innings. Abhishek needed a total of 528 balls to reach the 1000-run mark in T20Is. Before him the record of being the fastest batter to score 1000 runs in T20Is was in the name of India’s current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav.
