Air Niugini’s new Airbus A220 fleet will be operating into selected major domestic airports, with expansion to more destinations planned once runway works are completed.
Captain Samiu Taufa, the airline’s Officer in Charge and Acting Chief Operating Officer, confirmed yesterday during the signing ceremony between the Airline and Airbus, stating that the aircraft will initially serve Nadzab, Kavieng, and Manus, with Gurney in Milne Bay to be added once ongoing works are completed.
“The aircraft can currently go to Nadzab, it can go to Kavieng, it can go to Manus. And very shortly, within October, we will be going to Gurney after the runway works are completed,” Captain Taufa said.
He added that discussions with the National Airports Corporation are ongoing to explore options for operating into other airports under reduced loads, a practice already in use with the airline’s Fokker and Boeing 737 aircraft.
