'A positive measure' - Education chief on installing security screens in Black Country schools after increase in knife crime

Dudley Academies Trust run Beacon Hill Academy in Sedgley; The Link Academy in Netherton and Pegasus Academy, Blowers Green Primary and St James Academy in Dudley.

They have purchased ten of the security screens – sometimes known as knife arches – and two of them have been installed at St James – after a pilot period they will go live on Monday. One is already in operation at Beacon Hill Academy.

It comes in the wake of the death of Harvey Willgoose in Sheffield earlier this year – the 15-year-old was stabbed in the heart in school by a fellow pupil who had taken a hunting knife onto the premises.
