A platform for children to express their dream of social development

Ahead of the Kudumbashree’s children’s parliament in a few months, a platform will be provided for all Balasabha children to express what their idea of society should be.

The novel programme ‘Dream Vibes,’ conceived by the Kudumbashree Mission, is intended to give voice to children’s thoughts and perspectives for development of their community and society.

As part of Dream Vibes, children’s gatherings (Balasadassu) will be held in all Kudumbashree community development societies across the State on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti day.

In these meetings, children whose inputs and thoughts are rarely considered by adults during planning of development activities will get an opportunity to independently present their demands and vision of how development in their areas should be, its positives, challenges, and possibilities.

What makes Dream Vibes even more interesting is that children can present their thoughts in the format of their choosing, whether prose, poetry, reels, videos, posters, or any other media, at the gatherings.

The exercise is expected to shaped the young generation’s vision of how their local area development should be, especially since they are stakeholders in it.

Prioritising their ideas will give them more confidence and make them feel an active part of the development process. They will also understand what participatory development is when programmes targeting the vulnerable in society are planned.

These will then be consolidated.

Children’s charters prepared either by the children or including their vision of social development in an area will be handed over to the local body concerned for supporting the planning of their development activities.

Similar consolidations will occur at other levels too till the final document is readied for handing over to the government, said Kudumbashree officials.
