There are plans for a new McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant in Pontypridd. McDonald’s has announced plans for the drive-thru on land at the Gelli-Hirion Business Park in the Tesco Extra car park, commonly known as ‘Upper Boat’ locally, and a public consultation has been launched inviting local residents to have their say on the plans before the submission of a planning application to Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council. The proposed development includes a single-storey McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru lane, car parking, and other associated works including customer order displays. The development will share the Tesco car park but will include two accessible parking bays, four electric vehicle charging points, as well as four motorcycle parking spaces and three cycle spaces. McDonald’s says the development would provide a “significant economic boost” to the local area creating up to 110 new jobs including full- and part-time positions and generating approximately £58,000 in business rates every year. The consultation will run from Wednesday, September 17, to midnight on Wednesday, October 1.
