A New England spot is one of the best destinations for fall colors

New England has epic fall foliage, but the colors in New Hampshire’s White Mountains take it to a whole other level, according to USA Today readers.
The publication released a list of the 10 best places to see fall colors in the U.S. on Wednesday, part of its 2025 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and the White Mountains ranked No. 6.
Here’s what USA Today wrote about the White Mountains:
Whether travelers are looking to spend a weekend in a tiny mountain town or wind through the White Mountains on one of many scenic fall itineraries, this New Hampshire spot draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each fall. The views are unparalleled from the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, as well as the Kancamagus Highway, a National Scenic Byway.
The No. 1 place to see fall foliage in the U.S. is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, according to the publication.
USA Today also ranked Burlington, Vermont No. 10 among the best places to visit in the fall (No. 1 is Mackinac Island in Michigan). Among the best fall festivals in the U.S. is AppleFest at Wachusett Mountain in Westminster, Mass., taking place this year Oct. 18-19 (No. 1 is West Side Nut Club Fall Festival in Evansville, Ind.).
For the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards lists, USA Today travel experts select 20 nominees in topics from food to lodging, destinations to things to do. Then the publication asks readers to cast votes to determine the top 10.
