Already in Week 4 of the high school football season, there are some very interesting matchups on the slate this week.
Topping the Western Big 6 Conference schedule are big games in Moline and East Moline. The Moline Maroons host the Geneseo Green Machine and United Township seeks to snap a four-game losing streak to Sterling in Friday’s contest in East Moline.
Across the Mississippi River, teams will play their final non-district games this week with some interesting matchups, including one battle of unbeatens.
Here are the capsule previews of games featuring Quad-City metro schools:
Western Big 6 capsules
Geneseo (2-1, 1-0) at Moline (2-1, 1-0)

Last week: Geneseo beat Rock Island 45-10; Moline beat Sterling 36-20.
Game notes: Both teams have had plenty of success moving the ball and scoring points – Geneseo averages 28.3 points and Moline 27.0 per game. … The Maple Leafs rushed for 467 yards in last week’s win over Rocky with senior Kye Weinzierl covering 227 yards in just 10 carries and finding paydirt twice. Mark Nelms added 100 yards and senior QB Jackson McAvoy scored on three of his 10 carries as he covered 79 yards. The Leafs averaged 12.3 yards per carry. … Moline was on the threshold of a 400-yard rushing game in last week’s win over Sterling, finishing with 396 yards on the ground to go with 41 passing yards and a TD. … Marc Cary (21-158, 2 TDs) and Eli Warren (12-140, 2 TDs) led Moline’s ground attack.
Sterling (1-2, 0-1) at United Township (3-0, 1-0)
Soule Bowl, 6:45 p.m.
Last week: Sterling lost to Moline 35-20; UT beat Galesburg 56-16
Game notes: The UT Panthers are hoping to keep the offense rolling this week after scoring 56 points in each of their last two games, beating Chicago Muchin 56-0 two weeks ago, ahead of last week’s win over Sterling. UT has outscored foes 135-37 this season. … UT is averaging 45.0 points per game to Sterling’s 27.0. … While the Panthers churned out 337 yards rushing last week, junior QB Jonathan Drake completed 8 of 10 passes for 177 yards and 2 TDs vs. the winless Silver Streaks. … The last two games in this series – both Sterling victories – have been decided by a total of five points. … UT’s last victory over Sterling was a 47-44 victory in the spring season of 2021.
Quincy (2-1, 1-0) at Rock Island (0-3, 0-1)
Public School Stadium, 7 p.m.
Last week: Quincy beat Alleman 49-0; Rock Island lost to Geneseo 45-10.
Game notes: Quincy opened the season with a 27-19 loss to Boonville (Mo.), but bounced back with a 33-7 win over Alton before last week’s shutout of the Pioneers to open WB6 play. … QHS is outscoring foes 101-34, while Rock Island has been outscored 139-20. … Last week, Rocky did have some success passing the ball. QB Myles Duster completed 14 of 20 passes for 91 yards as the team was 17 of 23 for 180 yards and a TD. … Rocky junior RB Cameron Foley rushed 21 times for 84 yards last week.
Galesburg (1-2, 0-1) at Alleman (1-2, 0-1)
Lindburg Stadium, 7:45 p.m.
Last week: Alleman lost 49-0 at Quincy, Galesburg lost 56-16 at home to United Township.
Game notes: With both teams coming off tough losses, a win for either would be huge. … Even with a decisive 61-13 victory in the opener, Alleman is being outscored 94-76 this season. … Because of some big losses, the Pioneers rushed for 2 yards in last week’s loss. … Kyle Boden leads Alleman’s rushing attack, averaging 53.3 yards per game as Will Otten-Thoms averages 50.5 ypg. … Boden and fellow senior Adam Vanmeighem lead the defense with 4.3 tackles per game. … Galesburg, with its lone win a 42-25 decision over Bartonville Limestone, is being outscored 125-58. … The Silver Streaks were held to 40 rushing yards last week by UT, but did have QBs Grady Hickey and Day’Vion Jones throw for 160 yards.
Iowa capsules
Dubuque Senior (1-2) at Muscatine (0-3)
Muscatine Community Stadium, 7 p.m.
Last week: Muscatine dropped a 51-14 decision at Davenport Assumption, Senior lost 24-17 to Cedar Falls.
Game notes: This is a non-district game between the Class 5A schools that is also Muscatine’s homecoming contest. … These schools played four times since 2021 with Muscatine getting its first win over the Rams 27-26 last year. … Muscatine has been outscored 121-49 this year. Senior has outscored foes 70-60. … Dubuque senior QB Joey Schlosser leads the Rams in both passing yards (540; 49-73 with 2 TDs) and rushing yards (208). … Both teams have been balanced offensively. Senior has 540 passing yards and 475 rushing (1,015 total yards) and Muscatine has thrown for 310 yards and rushed for 342 yards (652).
Iowa City West (3-0) at Bettendorf (2-1)

Last week: Bettendorf beat Cedar Rapids Prairie 14-11, ICW beat Pleasant Valley 42-30
Game notes: This is a Class 5A non-district game. … ICW is ranked No. 5 in this week’s Iowa power rankings, Bettendorf is No. 14. … Since 2011, Bettendorf has won 10 of the 13 games the two have played. The Trojans snapped Bettendorf’s six-game win streak in the set with last year’s 21-16 playoff victory. … The teams already have two common opponents in PV and Iowa City High. West beat PV last week and City High 30-0 in the season opener. Bettendorf lost to PV 24-17 in the season opener and then beat City High 21-7. … West has rushed for 730 yards in 124 attempts and 11 TDs. …
Davenport North (2-1) at Davenport Central (1-2)
Brady Street Stadium, 7 p.m.
Last week: North beat Marion 28-0; Central beat Davenport West 42-6.
Game notes: This is a non-district game with North dropping to Class 4A this fall and Central remaining in 5A. … North has won the last six meetings in the series, including last year’s 39-0 decision. Central still leads the series 10-7 since 2008. … Through three games, junior QB Jaleel Toney Walker has been most of Central’s offense with 194 yards passing and 176 yards rushing. … Transfer QB Neil Brown has completed 44 of 76 passes for 644 yards and 7 TDs so far this season. His 7 TD tosses are T4 in Class 4A and his passing yardage is fourth. … His top target is senior David Joiner with 8 catches for 321 yards (fourth in the Class 4A) and three scores. … Central has been outscored this season 58-57. Even with last week’s shutout, North has been outscored 65-61.
Pleasant Valley (1-2) at Dubuque Hempstead (1-2)

Last week: Iowa City West beat PV 42-30; Hempstead beat Waterloo West 42-32
Game notes: This is a non-district game. … PV is No. 11 in this week’s Class 5A power rankings, Hempstead No. 21. … Pleasant Valley is looking to end a two-game losing streak since beating Bettendorf 24-17 in the delayed season opener. … This is the first meeting between the schools since 2022. … PV’s Spartans have won the last six meetings in this series, the last two by a combined 77-0 score. … Hempstead has rushed for 771 yards in 100 attempts, while the Spartans have covered 651 yards in 142 totes. Senior RB Jaden Montgomery leads the Mustangs with 495 yards and 7 TDs in 53 carries. … PV has rushed for 651 yards this season and thrown for 275, averaging 14.5 yards per completion.
Davenport West (0-3) at Davenport Assumption (1-2)

Last week: Assumption scored its first victory of the season with a 52-14 win over Muscatine; West dropped a 42-6 decision to city rival Central.
Game notes: This is a non-district game with West being a Class 4A school and Assumption being in 3A. … This is just the first meeting between the two Davenport schools since 2020 when the Knights won 54-0. Assumption has won all six meetings since 2008. … Assumption’s 2005 undefeated MAC championship team that was a Class 4A semifinalist will be honored during the game. … West has been outscored 147-12 this year. Assumption has outscored its foes 83-76. … Junior QB Luke Jobgen leads the Knights in both passing (197; 16-28 with 1 TD toss) and rushing (25-207 and 4 TDs). … Senior Christopher Simmons has the majority of West’s rushing yards with 119 on 18 carries along with one of the Falcons’ two touchdowns.
North Scott (1-2) at Clear Creek Amana (2-1)
CCA High School Stadium, 7:30 p.m.
Last week: North Scott is coming in off a tough 10-3 setback to Pella; CCA dropped a 54-21 decision at Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Game notes: This is a non-district game between the Class 4A schools that are perennial playoff teams. … North Scott leads the series 4-0 in games since 2018. … CCA is ranked No. 7 in this week’s Class 4A power index, while the Lancers are No. 16. … Xavier is a common opponent for each – a short-handed North Scott squad dropped a 31-0 decision when it faced the Saints in the season opener. … North Scott has been outscored 57-41 in its three games, while CCA has outscored foes 135-60 thanks to big wins over Davenport West (63-0) and Davenport North (51-6). … CCA averages 7.8 yards per run and 11.9 yards per reception. … The Lancers have as many interceptions as rushing TDs (3) this season.
Central DeWitt (3-0) at Mount Pleasant (3-0)

Last week: Central DeWitt handled West Liberty 42-6 and Mount Pleasant beat Oskaloosa 34-20.
Game notes: This is a non-district game between the two Class 3A schools. … It is also the first time the two schools have met, according to records on the Bound Iowa website. … Central DeWitt is No. 5 in this week’s Class 3A power index, ahead of No. 11 Mount Pleasant. … These are two of the 10 undefeated Class 3A schools in the state. … Central DeWitt has outscored foes 137-27 this season. Mount Pleasant has outscored foes 93-42. … With senior Hudson Krukow throwing for 664 yards (40-52, Class 3A-leading 11 TDs) and junior Cooper Small leading the rushing game with 303 yards, the Sabers have amassed 1209 yards offense this season, compared to the Panthers’ 895. … Sabers receivers Jameson Gregoire (5) and Brady Meadows (4) are Class 3A leaders in touchdowns receptions.
Maquoketa (1-2) at Clinton (2-1)
Coan Field, 7:15 p.m.
Last week: Clinton comes in off a 20-17 victory at Cedar Rapids Washington; the Cardinals got their first win of the season, beating Tipton 28-18.
Game notes: This is a non-district game with Clinton being a Class 4A school and Maquoketa being in Class 3A. … The teams have split four meetings since 2021, with Clinton winning last year 13-7. … Maquoketa is No. 35 in the 3A power index; Clinton No. 12 in 4A. … Clinton has been outscored 83-61, which included giving up 53 to Central DeWitt in the opener. Maquoketa has been outscored 64-55. … Senior Tate Streets leads the Cardinals in both passing (364 yards, 34 of 50, 3 TDs) and tackles (17.0, including one TFL). … Junior Ethan Carpenter leads the River Kings with 5 TDs, four of those rushing and the other a scoring catch.
