After years of talk on the matter, we’re finally getting a live-action adaptation of Life Is Strange. The TV series is headed to Prime Video and will be written by The End of the F**king World creator, Charlie Covell.
The original game follows Max Caulfield, who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time when she witnesses her childhood friend, Chloe Price, being shot. Armed with her new ability Max uncovers the disappearance of other girls in their hometown of Arcadia Bay in Oregon.
Prime Video has announced that Covell will serve as an executive producer and showrunner on the series. Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap and Amazon MGM Studios are also producing.
“It’s a huge honour to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios,” said Covell, who as well as The End of the F**king World Covell is also known for Netflix’s KAOS. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap.
“I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
LuckyChap, the production company behind Barbie, Saltburn, I, Tonya and more said in a statement: “We’ve been huge fans of the visionary Charlie Covell for years, so partnering with them on the adaptation of Life is Strange is truly a dream come true.
“Charlie is an exceptional steward of revered IP, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have them at the helm of such an original, beloved and culturally resonant video game.”
Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton, Studio Heads at Square Enix added, “For years we’ve had so many people asking us to create a Life is Strange TV show and we’re so pleased to finally partner with Amazon MGM Studios who we trust will do an incredible job bringing our universe to life.”
The 2015 game launched a series of games starting with 2017’s Before the Storm and followed by The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit a year later. Life Is Strange 2 was released in 2018 and Life Is Strange: True Colors followed in 2021. Life Is Strange: Double Exposure came out in 2024 and was the first game after the original to focus on Max.
The game has been celebrated for its LGBTQ+ representation, with Max and Chloe being canonically queer. Additionally, characters featured in subsequent games, such as Sean Diaz, are also queer.
Upon news that a live-action series of the game is in the works fans began fan-casting the series. One tweet suggesting Wednesday star Emma Myers would be ideal casting for Max has received nearly 9,000 likes on X/Twitter.
Others have posted similarly in support of Myers getting the role. “Emma Myers as Max is too perfect to pass up,” wrote one fan while someone else wondered, “am i delusional for actually believing there’s a big possibility emma myers is playing max.”
Myers herself has previously told Seventeen that playing Max would be a “dream role.” So, if the producers re paying attention, maybe fans dream casting will come true…
