Warning! Spoilers for The Witcher season 4 ahead! Yet another new character introduced in The Witcher season 4 is Nimue, who holds an essential destiny in the original book series. Nimue was brought into the mix alongside Stribog, another canon character from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. The pair appeared in The Witcher season 4's first episode, where they helped set the stage for this next chapter in Geralt's story. It was then that Nimue also revealed her theory that she is somehow linked to Ciri's destiny. Arthurian legend enthusiasts may recognize the name Nimue as the iconic Lady of the Lake, who emerged from the water with the sword Excalibur. The similarities aren't a coincidence. Sapkowski is known for linking fairytales and legends from our world with the adventures of his characters. It's in his novel The Lady of the Lake that Nimue plays the most prominent role, and, just as she theorized in The Witcher season 4, it has everything to do with Princess Cirilla. Nimue Is An Aretuza Mage From The Future In the Witcher books, Nimue was born around 100 years after the events detailed in The Witcher season 4. She grew up in a small village called Vyrva, near the Yaruga, where she loved to listen to Stribog's stories about Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. Nimue's passion for these legends led her to dream of becoming a mage one day, and that's precisely what she did. In the final episode of The Witcher season 4, an older Nimue came to say goodbye to Stribog, announcing that she would be leaving for Aretuza to become a sorceress. This comes straight from the books as well, and, in the epilogue of Season of Storms, Nimue has her own adventures as she travels across the continent and becomes a Novice at the ancient school. Nimue's introduction in The Witcher season 4 suggests that we will see these adventures play out in the upcoming season 5. It's also a sign that Ciri will soon begin time traveling, bringing her face-to-face with Nimue. How Nimue Will Play A Role In Ciri's Story In The Witcher Season 5 Despite living a century after the events of The Witcher season 4, Nimue will turn out to be pivotal to Ciri's adventures, just as she suspected. In the books, Ciri discovers her ability to travel through time and to different worlds, but she has minimal control over where she lands. Her goal is to arrive at Strygga Castle, where Vilgefortz has Yennefer captive. However, Ciri keeps turning up at the wrong time and place. At one point, Ciri appears before Nimue, hovering over the lake near her home, but she vanishes (after realizing that Nimue was in the middle of an intimate moment). The sorceress recognized Ciri and understood, from the legends she had grown up obsessing over, that the princess was lost in time and space. So, Nimue set to work figuring out how to get Ciri to Strygga Castle the next time she appeared. The final big conflicts of the series will arrive once Yennefer, Geralt, and Ciri are at Strygga, and it will be the Lady of the Lake's destiny from far in the future to help get them there.
