One such example is a 1970 Chevrolet K5 Blazer hand built by the brothers and finished in BASF “Growler Green” paint. This custom K5 Blazer has only 800 miles clocked on it since its restoration. It boasts a 6.2-liter LS3 V8, a fully modernized chassis, custom bodywork, a tan leather interior, HRE wheels, and Baer brakes. Why The Chevrolet K5 Blazer Is So Iconic The Chevrolet K5 Blazer made a splash as a go-anywhere, devil-may-care truck-like vehicle in 1969. Long before EV company Slate popped up as a customizable truck option for individualistic types, the K5 was made to be a blank canvas. Only a front seat was standard; the passenger seat and third-row bench was optional. The K5 Blazer started at $2,000, which was below the average vehicle price in 1970. Chevy called it “a new utility runabout," an apt description for a truck that emerged at the dawning of a new era of SUVs. “Think of it as a beginning,” said Brock Yates of Car and Driver in the April 1970 issue. “Nobody really understands the dimensions of recreational market, and Chevrolet has to be forgiven for not working harder with the Blazer.
