Meghan Markle and Princess Kate's Auras Compared Online

Meghan Markle and Princess Kate’s auras were compared in a post that went viral on TikTok as fans suggested there was a “big difference” between the two princesses.

The clip began with an image of Meghan walking up to the stage at the One Young World Summit at the Royal Albert Hall, on October 22, 2019.

The second clip showed Princess Kate getting a standing ovation at the Wimbledon Tennis Championship in London in July 2024 during only her second public appearance after starting chemotherapy for cancer that February.

Meghan Markle is seen at the One Young World Summit at the Royal Albert Hall on October 22, 2019. Princess Kate steps out at Wimbledon Tennis Championships on July 14, 2024.

Why It Matters

The TikTok post was liked 33.5k times and viewed 524k times after being posted with an on screen caption that read “aura?” during the clip of Meghan followed by “this is the aura” over the clip of Kate.

Of course, there is no definitive answer to the question of which royal princess has more aura, which is itself a highly subjective concept.

What to Know

Kate’s appearance was a particularly significant moment for her because it came after months in which she had been trolled on social media while in private she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

In January 2024, Kate had major abdominal surgery in response to a health problem that was not originally thought to be cancerous.

However, after the operation, further tests showed cancer had been present and she began chemotherapy in February that year, running to around September.

By March, Kate had not appeared in public yet that year, sparking frenzied speculation which hit fever pitch after Kensington Palace released a photo of the princess with her children which it turned out she had edited.

Celebrities including Kim Kardashian joined in the social media trend for asking “Where Is Kate Middleton?” prompting Kate to issue a video message confirming she had cancer.

By June, she carried out her first public engagement at Trooping the Colour, King Charles III’s birthday parade, a ceremony steeped in pageantry.

Wimbledon was her second public appearance and marked a return to a tournament and a sport she loves. Fans on Centre Court that day showed she was also loved as they stood and clapped her return to public life.

Meghan’s appearance at the One Young World Summit in October 2019 also came at a time of conflict. Meghan and Harry had already left the private office at Kensington Palace where they had previously shared staff with Prince William and Kate.

Historian Robert Lacey wrote in his 2021 book Battle of Brothers that William “threw Harry out” and just a month after the summit the Sussexes left Britain to spend Thanksgiving in Canada. They never returned to Britain full time, announcing in January 2020 they would quit the palace for a new life in North America.

What People Are Saying

Some fans agreed with the content creator that “Queen Kate❤” had more aura while another preferred “Meghan 💕💕💕💕.”

“Meghan is an American retired actress,” one reply read, “Katherine is a fully respected working royal and next in line with William … big difference.”

Another wrote: “The aura, where everyone stands for Princess Catherine, is exactly what MM thought was going to happen to her when she married Harry and when it didn’t she left the RF.”

What Happens Next

Meghan and Kate last saw each other at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on September 19, 2022, and are unlikely to see each other again any time soon due to the rift between the two couples.
