United States President Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on all movies made outside the country. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that foreign countries are stealing the movie-making business from the US. Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ He specifically called out California for being affected due to its weak and incompetent Governor. In another post, Trump turned his attention to the furniture industry. He blamed China and other countries for decimating North Carolina’s once-thriving furniture business. To revive it, he announced substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States. The details of these tariffs were not revealed by Trump. Earlier this week, Trump announced a series of tariffs on various products. These included a 100% tariff on pharmaceutical products unless companies were building manufacturing plants in America. He defined building as breaking ground or being under construction in the US. Other tariffs included a 50% levy on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture, and a 25% levy on heavy trucks. Trump’s new tariff announcements are part of his broader strategy to bring back manufacturing and entertainment jobs to America. He has repeatedly accused foreign countries of undercutting American businesses and stealing jobs. The US president claims that these trade restrictions will help revive industries that have been hurt by foreign competition.
