‘Men Loot Women’s Unpaid Labour’: Viral Alimony Debate Amid Dhanashree’s New Claims On Yuzvendra

Dhanashree Verma has grabbed public attention after opening up about her marriage to cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and the events that followed. Speaking on the Prime Video reality show Rise and Fall, she addressed widespread speculation about the alimony she “received”, clarifying that many claims about her demanding a specific amount were false.
The couple reportedly settled on Rs 4.75 crore as permanent alimony after 18 months of marriage, but Dhanashree’s latest revelations have sparked conversations. Recently, a video caught attention online where a man weighed in on alimony and gender roles in marriages.
Video Sparks Debate On Unpaid Labour
The footage, shared on Instagram, shows a man expressing his perspective on domestic responsibilities. He said, “Chai nahi bana kar de sakta wo apne ma baap ko toh wo (husband) kis chiz ka seva karne wala hai…wo (the wife) kyu karegi? Wo apne maa baap ki karegi. Tum fir ek maid hi le aao na (He can’t even make tea for his parents, so why should a husband serve his wife? She will serve her parents. Then just hire a maid).”
“Men are least bothered about parents. Ye sab kuch thik hone ka thekra mahilao par hi kyu dala jata hai? ‘Tu khana banegi, tu aise karegi, ye karegi wo karegi’ – uske chakkar mein wo chid chuki hai (Why is all the responsibility of keeping things right put on women? ‘You will cook, you will do this, you will do that’ – that’s why she’s fed up),” he added.
The overlay text on the video read: “Men cry about alimony while systemically looting women’s unpaid labour and emotional labour for absolutely free of cost.”

Social Media Users Share Mixed Reactions
In the comments section, some praised the perspective while others shared different views.
One user commented, “They want a slave, not a partner.”
Another wrote, “Agree. Every responsibility needs to be equally distributed. Mutual understanding is missing.”
“Times have changed, yet in many homes, marriage still makes women into labourers. Household work and caregiving must be shared equally. This is why women reject the old way of marriage, and they are right. Until men step up, nothing will change,” someone else added.
On the other hand, a person said, “Those who don’t have anything to do, cry for alimony.”
An individual remarked, “What an utter nonsense! Men go out and earn. It’s not an easy job to say the least, & expecting a happy environment at home with good food at the table is the least he can have.”
“Why is cooking for one’s family considered unpaid labour? Be it done by a man or a woman,” a viewer asked.
Criticism Faced By Dhanashree
Dhanashree has been constantly enduring criticism ever since her fallout with Chahal. Many labelled her a “gold digger”, claiming that she “used” Chahal to boost her career and social media following.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Dhanashree Verma is educated. She is empowered. She earns pretty well. There is no child from marriage. Still, she is taking 4.25 Crores Alimony from Yuzvendra Chahal for a marriage that lasted just 18 months. Then feminists have a problem with the word Gold Digger.”
Another said, “Dhanashree claims to be a self-independent, hardworking woman who never used anyone for success. Yet, she demands Rs 4.75 crore in alimony for 818 days with Chahal, valuing herself at Rs 50,611 per day.”
“While passing the alimony judgment, what were M’lords thinking? The biggest asset Yuzi gave Dhanashree was connections and fame, which she will milk her whole life,” a person remarked.
Support For Dhanashree
Amid the criticism, Dhanashree has also received support from peers and friends who acknowledged her courage in speaking out. Devisha Shetty, wife of Suryakumar Yadav, praised Dhanashree for coming forward on the podcast Humans of Bombay.
On Instagram, she wrote, “So much respect and love for you.”
Social media personality Uorfi Javed also reached out. She highlighted that Dhanashree was going through a challenging phase and publicly shared a long post in support of her. She later personally connected with Uorfi to convey her gratitude for the support.
