President Sisi holds summit talks with visiting UAE President M. bin Zayed

Egypt, UAE welcome Trump initiative as pathway to lasting, comprehensive peace in Mideast

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed have welcomed the peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump to halt the war in Gaza and emphasised the importance of supporting this initiative as a pathway towards achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

In summit talks they held at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo Monday, Egyptian and Emirati leaders discussed regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip, the Presidency spokesman, Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy, said.

In this connection, spokesman Shennawy added, both leaders welcomed the peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump for halting the war in Gaza and emphasized the importance of supporting this initiative as a pathway for achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

The UAE President had arrived at Cairo International Airport earlier on Monday, with President Sisi welcoming him there. The visit reflects the deep-rooted and historic ties between Egypt and the UAE—ties that both President Sisi and and President M. bin Zayed are keen to strengthen and build upon, spokesman Shennawy said.

President bin Zayed’s visit to Cairo also comes as a continuation of ongoing consultation and close coordination between the leaderships of the two countries, spokesman Shennawy said, adding that cordial ties between the two countries have been on a growth course since the founding of the United Arab Emirates by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the early 1970s.

Egyptian-Emirati talks started with an expanded session involving delegations from both countries, followed by a closed bilateral meeting between the two leaders. The discussions concluded with a working lunch held in honor of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and his accompanying delegation, the Presidency spokesman said.

President El-Sisi opened the talks by affirming the depth and strength of Egypt-UAE relations and praised the notable growth in bilateral co-operation across various sectors, particularly in trade and investment. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to removing all obstacles facing Emirati investments and commended the remarkable surge in economic relations between the two countries. In turn, President bin Zayed lauded Egypt’s evolving investment climate, which he said reflects the country’s dedicated efforts to enhance the business environment and attract foreign investment, spokesman Shennawy said.
