New season, new wardrobe might be the case for some, but for those among us on a budget, we won’t be buying eeeverything we swoon over in the new Autumn/Winter drops.
That said, it’s still nice to treat ourselves to a few new things, and there’s plenty of fab bits in at Marks & Spencer that have us tempted to part with our cash.
Autumn has long been the season for investing in classics like a good coat, but in 2025, there’s a new print making its mark and an unexpected skirt style growing in popularity. We’re also very happy about a new shoe trend…
Mini skirts are back
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, minis are back in a big way this season, so much so that, according to the style experts at M&S, they’re now accounting for half of skirt and dress sales.
Director of M&S Woman Maddy Evans told The Telegraph that Marks customers love to wear their mini skirts with ‘woolly tights and knee boots’ which is a cosy look we can definitely get on board with!
Checks are chic
Every season, there’s a print that seems to be everywhere, and this year fashion seems to be taking a tiny breather from animal print and going wild for checks.
Of course, tartan is an autumn/winter classic (what would Christmas be without a splash of red tartan?) and always will be, but this year you’ll find plenty of other checks in more neutral shades.
Take for example the Checked Collared Zip Up Cardigan with Wool, which is pretty well priced at €57, and would be a cosy but stylish jumper for the chillier months. Sign us up!
Invest in a statement coat
We say it every year and every year we manage to leave it too late to get the coat we want, well, not in 2025! M&S always comes through on quality and the Jaguar ones have caught our eye this season.
They’re not the cheapest smart jacket options on the high street, but the Pure Wool Single Breasted Boyfriend Coats ooze sophistication and at €325 are pretty well priced for the material.
We’re also big fans of the Checked Collared Short Jacket which at €85 won’t break the bank too badly and would look super cute with jeans on a fresh autumn day.
Big heels are out
In news that our feet are delighted to hear, heels seem to be out this Autumn, or at least, big heels, with kitten heels still dominating the high street.
That said, we’ve noticed more and more of another design making a comeback – the Mary Jane flat! M&S has several flats with a strap across the foot in its new drop, and if we’re going to buy a new pair of shoes this season, it’d be one in this style.
The Leather Buckle Flat Ballet Pumps (€85) would look great with trousers for work while the Satin Strappy Flat Ballet Pumps (€57) are giving big cool girl energy – we’re sure they’ll be all over Instagram by December!
Swoon for maroon
If Kate Middleton’s recent maroon moment didn’t convince you, let M&S’ new drop get you to swoon for maroon. The shade is super flattering and great to colour block or wear as a splash of colour against denim or black.
Marks’ Wool Look Tailored Revere Cropped Blazer (€85) has all the makings of a wardrobe hero you’ll reach for time and time again.
Bags with designer vibes at a fraction of the cost
While we love treating ourselves to a splurge purchase as much as the next person, who doesn’t love a bargain and especially when it involves getting a new bag?!
The Suedette Buckle Shoulder Bag is giving strong designer energy, and at €54, it’s going straight into our basket!
And a trend we’re not sold on…
Embellished clothes aren’t a new thing on the fashion scene and there’s plenty of studs and gems scattered across the new in collection at M&S.
Fashion is a personal thing and while some people love an embellishment, others aren’t so sure it’ll stand the test of time – both in the fashion stakes and holding up in the wash!
While admiring the bedazzled items, and there’s no denying they’re pretty, we’ll be siding with one of the other trends this season and not risking the loss of a gem or stud… being one down really kills an outfit’s vibe!
