Dying Light: The Beast features a sizable open world with plenty of sights to enjoy, secrets to uncover, collectibles to find, and tough enemies to take out. With unique activities scattered around the map, you will be moving a lot, especially on foot, using your magic parkour abilities.
With that in mind, can you actually fast-travel around the map? Does Kyle possess the ability to transport wherever he desires instantly? Here is everything you need to know about getting around in Dying Light: The Beast.
Does Dying Light The Beast Have Fast Travel?
No, Dying Light: The Beast does not have a fast-travel system, and you’ll have to make your way around on your own.
This is a deliberate design decision for several reasons:
First, compared to the first two games, Castor Woods is a much smaller map, and getting around isn’t as tedious as Dying Light 2. Since the map is smaller, most activities are usually scattered around main areas, so you don’t have to venture too far if you’re going through the main campaign. Having to travel on foot means you need to stay on alert even if you’re parkour-ing through obstacles most of the time.
Get Around Faster
If you still want to improve your traversal experience, there are a few ways you can get to different locations a bit faster:
Drive Vehicles
Castor Woods has a few vehicles that Kyle can get into and drive to different locations. It’s much faster than just running around, and you can run over plenty of zombies before the truck gives out.
Don’t forget, vehicles consume fuel, which you’ll need to siphon from other vehicles or find through exploration. They can’t cross deeper streams, though shallow ones are fine. You can spot drivable vehicles by using your binoculars to scan the surrounding area, ideally from a high point.
Unlock the Grappling Hook
As you progress through the campaign, you will eventually get access to the grappling hook, an essential part of Kyle’s kit that made traversal incredible, even in the first one. To unlock this, you will need to finish the main mission called “Some Like It Dark“.
Travel Through Rooftops
Look, having amazing parkour skills means you shouldn’t be walking around on the surface like a normal pedestrian. The rooftops are your domain, and ideally, you should never touch the ground.
Use your parkour skills to the max, make risky leaps, and unlock the “Active Landing” skill early on to reduce fall damage while keeping your momentum even if you take a large fall.
I’m glad that the developers stuck to their design choices and didn’t carelessly add this mechanic, which is practically available in every other open-world game. There are plenty of ways to improve your traversal capabilities without sacrificing immersion.
