Drake Maye Makes Feelings Clear on Tom Brady Comparison Amid Mike Vrabel’s Request

Tom Brady made the Patriots one of the most successful franchises in NFL history under coach Bill Belichick. They are now hoping that the duo of Drake Maye–Mike Vrabel could replicate that success, if not come close to their success. Particularly, the way their quarterback is performing, he is in the elite company of some greats.
The sophomore has 3 consecutive games with a 75+% completion rate and 2+ touchdowns this year. The only player with a longer streak in NFL history is Tom Brady. So, when Nick ‘Fitzy’ Stevens asked him about his feelings of being in statistical comparison with the GOAT, Maye did not get too overjoyed. He replied, “We got a lot of work to do, and especially myself, so those things are cool that they bring out that stuff in stats. But like I said, I think getting wins is what those guys are remembered for, and we’ve got a tough stretch of games, starting on Sunday night. So we got to get back out there and keep it going.” That’s right and outright impressive!

In 4 games so far, Maye has completed 91 of 123 passes (73.9% completion rate) for 988 yards, with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. From weeks 2 to 4, his performance has been terrific.
Dolphins (Week 2) – 19 of 23 (82.6% completion rate), 230 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions
Steelers (Week 3) – 28 of 37 (75.7% completion rate), 268 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception
Panthers (Week 4) – 14 of 17 (82.4% completion rate), 203 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions
However, Drake Maye can only assert his dominance in the Patriots circles once he takes them into the playoffs. Yet, there is another striking similarity between the North Carolina alum and the NFL GOAT. According to the NFL Draft data, both Maye and Brady are 6-foot-4 and weigh 225 pounds. Reaching the GOAT status is a faraway dream, but the comparisons are not stopping yet.
As the sophomore also pointed out, getting wins is the most significant criterion of success. Last year, he played 13 games (12 started), won only 3 of them, losing 9. After completing 225 of 338 passes for 2276 passing yards, he had a poor 15-10 TD-INT. ratio. So, this year, he already has 2 wins. Maye has a good chance of making it to the playoffs if he continues to perform the way he has so far.
Amid all this, HC Mike Vrabel is also counting on him to lead the team till the end with consistency. That matters.
Mike Vrabel makes a huge demand of Drake Maye & co.
After calling Drake Maye a “young, athletic, talented, full-of-potential player,” the HC Mike Vrabel revealed in March that the sophomore was a big reason he came to New England. However, after his arrival, things have gained momentum. He has transformed the Patriots’ way as per the new set of players.
In Week 4, the Patriots had a dominant 42-13 victory against the Panthers. The coach was over the moon and said, “I think that’s what I’ve tried to do is whether you win or you lose, we’ve got to embrace moving on. We have to do that. We have to prepare here for a division opponent on the road. It’s going to be a great environment, and hopefully we’ll see where we’re at.” That’s right.

Unless they achieve the bigger goal of sealing a playoff spot, they need to be stoic about winning. If you watch the 2 games they lost, they lost both by 7 points. That’s just one touchdown away. But even their other win of the season came with only 6 points. So, the Pats have made some right combinations, which have helped them get the desired results on the field.
