PTC Web Desk: US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would impose tariffs on movies and furniture produced outside the United States, claiming that foreign countries have been “stealing” these industries from America.In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT.Trump also addressed furniture manufacturing, citing the decline of the industry in North Carolina due to competition from China and other countries. On Truth Social, he wrote: In order to make North Carolina, which has completely lost its furniture business to China, and other Countries, GREAT again, I will be imposing substantial Tariffs on any Country that does not make its furniture in the United States. Details to follow!!! President DJT.This move comes after Trump earlier announced tariffs on a range of products, including pharmaceutical items and heavy trucks. He imposed a 100% tariff on pharmaceutical products, exempting companies that are actively constructing or planning to build manufacturing plants in the US. In addition, he levied 50% tariffs on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture, and a 25% tariff on heavy trucks.Trump’s latest tariff announcements are part of his broader effort to protect US industries and revive domestic manufacturing.
