The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), has called on government to endorse and facilitate incentives for public sector organisations that invest in professional marketing certification for their employees.
Speaking at the 36th CIMG Annual National Marketing Performance Awards in Accra, CIMG National President, Michael Abbiw, said such a policy would help accelerate the elevation of marketing standards nationwide.
He emphasised that Ghana’s ambition to reposition “Brand Ghana” on the global stage depends on embedding marketing excellence within the public sector. According to him, professional certification is “the bridge that will carry Ghana from potential to prosperity and from local to global markets.”
Mr. Abbiw also proposed the adoption of a national policy mandating marketing expertise in public sector appointments, arguing that this would inject innovative thinking into governance and ensure that boards of state institutions benefit from the insights of branding, sales, and communications professionals.
As part of its drive to raise standards, CIMG announced plans to introduce a League Table to recognise organisations that actively support staff membership and professional development in marketing.
“The time for half-measures is over. Excuses have passed. The time for transformation is now,” Mr. Abbiw declared, urging CEOs, HR managers, and business leaders to prioritise professional marketing training for their teams.
The 36th Annual CIMG Awards, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Friday, September 26, 2025, celebrated excellence, resilience, and innovation in Ghanaian marketing, honouring organisations and individuals driving growth through world-class practices.
