Back on Track: Veteran Tight End Scores First Touchdown Since 2023 Season

Entering Monday, it had been 708 days since Darren Waller scored a touchdown in an NFL game.
It came as a member of the New York Giants in a 14-7 win against the Washington Commanders. Those 708 days are now a distant memory as Waller scored his first touchdown of the season with his new team, the Miami Dolphins.
Waller made the decision to come out of retirement prior to this season, and it was the Dolphins who made a trade to acquire Waller’s rights from the Giants. Injuries forced him to miss all of the preseason as well as the first three weeks of the regular season.
He made his season debut Monday night against the New York Jets, and he delivered in his first game action since the 2023 season. On a fourth and goal play early in the second quarter, Waller hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass from Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
It was Waller’s big frame that allowed him to go up and make a spectacular catch in the back of the endzone. It had to be an outstanding feeling for Waller to get back into the endzone for the first time in nearly two years.
Waller’s production and health will be something to monitor throughout the season. If he can stay healthy, he could help Miami get out of the 0-3 hole it has started in.
