The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), has proposed the government’s endorsement and facilitation of incentives for public sector organisations that invest in professional marketing certification for their staff.
Delivering his keynote address at the 36th CIMG Annual National Marketing Performance Awards in Accra, CIMG National President, Michael Abbiw, stressed that institutionalising such incentives would accelerate the elevation of marketing standards across the country.
He argued that Ghana’s quest to reposition “Brand Ghana” on the global stage hinges on embedding marketing excellence into the public sector, adding that professional qualifications are “the bridge that will carry Ghana from potential to prosperity and from local to global markets.”
Mr. Abbiw urged the government to champion a national policy that mandates marketing expertise in public sector appointments. This, he explained, would inject fresh thinking into governance and ensure that state boards are guided by sales, branding, and communications professionals.
In line with its push for higher standards, CIMG also announced plans to publish a League Table to recognise organisations that actively support their staff’s membership and professional development in marketing.
“The time for half-measures is over. Excuses have passed. The time for transformation is now,” Mr. Abbiw charged, rallying CEOs, HR directors, and business leaders to commit to equipping their teams with professional marketing credentials.
The 36th Annual CIMG Awards, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Friday 26th September, 2025 celebrated excellence, resilience, and innovation in Ghanaian marketing, spotlighting organisations and individuals driving economic growth through world-class marketing practices.
