The Dallas Cowboys are now 1-2-1 on the season after a thrilling matchup against the Green Bay Packers led to a tie in overtime. While everyone expected the Packers to run away with the victory, the Cowboys hung tough through all four quarters and 10 minutes of overtime.

The course of the game could have been changed had the Cowboys been able to use their star receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb is currently dealing with an ankle injury and was ruled out due to a high ankle sprain.
High ankle sprains can often lead to multiple weeks off, especially based on the severity of the injury. Lamb could miss Week 5 due to his injury, but Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed a major update on the plan for their star receiver.
Brian Schottenheimer said they currently don’t have plans to put WR CeeDee Lamb (ankle) or RG Tyler Booker (ankle) on injured reserve. “Both are trending in the right direction. Both guys are getting better.” Booker is no longer wearing a walking boot— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) September 29, 2025
While speaking to reporters, Schottenheimer revealed that there is “no plan” to place Lamb on IR, which would effectively keep him out for a minimum of four games. This is huge news considering he has already missed one game.

If the Cowboys did place Lamb on IR, he would miss the next three matchups, making him eligible to return in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos.
With Lamb not being added to IR, it could mean that he may be ready to return as soon as Week 5. However, he might also need some extra healing time and won’t be able to take the field until Week 6 at the earliest.
The Cowboys have the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders, and Broncos next. On paper, Dallas should be in a great spot to notch wins against the Jets and Panthers, but Lamb would certainly be needed for the Commanders and Broncos showdowns.
The good news is George Pickens emerged as the WR1 against the Packers, hauling in 134 yards and one touchdown on eight receptions. The Cowboys have a star in the making with Pickens, and the team can only get better with both back on the field.
Lamb might need some time to heal, but not being placed on IR bodes well for his chances to return to action sooner rather than later.
