-The Bengals have a chance to go to 3-1 tonight for the first time since 2021. This would be a big deal because that means they would not only be 3-1, but the Broncos would fall to 1-3 along with the Baltimore Ravens. So, the Bengals would keep pace in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers while two preseason playoff favorites would be in quite a hole.
-The Broncos are -7.5 points tonight.
-Can the Bengals get running back Chase Brown going? He’s simply been terrible this year as he has 93 yards rushing and one touchdown in his first three starts. That’s total, not per game.
“The Broncos rank 16th in rushing yards allowed per game with 114.7 and 15th with 4.2 yards per carry allowed,” Billy Riccette of Bengals Wire writes. “The Bengals would be wise to see early on if Rivers can give them that boost and finally get running back Chase Brown going — Brown is averaging 31 rushing yards per game, good for 52nd in the league.”
-The Broncos will be wearing a new uniform combination for their Monday Night Football game. They will don their Midnight Navy alternate jerseys with navy pants, navy socks and navy metallic satin helmets, if you care about such things.
Showdown between Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Pat Surtain II
It shouldn’t matter that Ja’Marr Chase is battling Pat Surtain II tonight. Yes, he’s going against probably the best cornerback in the NFL, but as you know, Chase should always be in your lineup regardless.
Surtain even talked about the challenges of going up against a guy like Chase.
“The challenge is a bigger receiver, like [Chase], they’re obviously strong, they can get physical and the combination with speed with that physicality, the bigger frame, that can become a nightmare,” Surtain said. “Because they can create space and they have the physicality to keep you away from the ball and then run away from you if they get it.”
Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was effusive of his praise of Surtain recently.
“I’ve never coached, or seen, a player that’s had his physical traits, combined with his football IQ and the work ethic,” Joseph said. “He’s a savant playing the position with the rarest of physical traits.”
The Surtain/Chase matchup could be one for the ages and worth staying up late for.
