Bad Bunny will kick off his 24-date Debí Tirar Más Fotos world tour in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Nov. 21, just over two months before he’ll appear at the Super Bowl.
The tour includes stops in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom, but not in the United States — except for his Super Bowl performance, which comes the day after a three-day concert schedule in Chile.
In an interview with I-D magazine published earlier in September, Bad Bunny said his decision to omit the U.S. from his upcoming world tour was out of concern for the U.S. political climate.
“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate,” he said.
He cited the Trump administration’s mass deportation of Latinos as a motivation for his decision to stop doing shows in the U.S.
“ICE could be outside (my concert). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he said.
‘I will never forget what Donald Trump did’ after Hurricane Maria
Just over eight years ago, on Sept. 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm, bringing a near-total blackout to the island territory and significant damage.
➤ Trump tosses paper towels to crowd in Puerto Rico visit
Bad Bunny endorsed presidential candidate Kamala Harris, sharing a video to his Instagram followers of her pledging to boost Puerto Rico’s economy.
“I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader,” Harris said in the video he shared.
“He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes and offered nothing more than paper towel and insults.”
➤ Is Bad Bunny a Trump supporter?
Reaction to Trump’s visit at the time was mixed in Puerto Rico.
At the island’s Calvary Chapel, enthusiastic residents reached for the paper towels.
A White House press pool report described it as a “well-staged” event, where the president was cheered amid signs that read “Proud Americans,” “God Bless You Mr. President” and “Let’s Make Puerto Rico Great Again.”
In another area, a woman held up a sign reading, “You are a bad hombre” as the president’s motorcade passed a damaged part of the island.
