Improved performance for North Lanarkshire Council on developing workforce

The latest update on the effort to develop the workforce in North Lanarkshire has noted improved performance. The six-monthly report on the council’s Brighter Futures programme notes that more than 1500 people have received support from NL Academies, gaining work, training and being guided to key sectors in the area. One hundred candidates for supported employment successfully gained employment while thousands more received community learning and development support, with more than 1000 gaining new national qualifications. People from ethnic minorities started 17 new businesses while almost 100 existing businesses received some form of support. This was in addition to more than 300 other start-ups also receiving support, almost 6000 hours’ worth of bookings in the council’s HIVE business hub in Airdrie. More than 80 social enterprises also received support while 67 companies were added to the Employer Charter. More than 30 others are currently undergoing assessment. The council is also in the process of developing a new social value framework designed to increase the return on procurement processes, and additional opportunities for volunteering have been made available within education and other services. The report was unanimously endorsed at a meeting of the council’s policy and strategy committee. * Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here .
