Metrovalencia has announced significant changes to its service since Monday September 29 after torrential rain forced the authorities to declare a red alert in both Valencia and Castellón. The transport operator confirmed the disruption on social media, explaining that trains and trams would run according to the Saturday timetable.
Commuters have been advised to check service information before travelling, as some lines are suffering temporary suspensions. On Monday morning, Line 2 was interrupted between Santa Rita and LlÃria until around 10.00 am, when operations were restored.
At present, trains are circulating between Torrent Avinguda and Paterna, with replacement buses covering the route between Paterna and LlÃria. Metrovalencia stated that two routes are running in both directions: LlÃria–L’Eliana–Paterna and LlÃria–Benaguasil–La Pobla de Vallbona–L’Eliana–La Canyada–Paterna.
Drivers rescued
The heavy rainfall has also caused severe flooding in several neighbourhoods of Valencia, where streets have turned into rivers and numerous vehicles have been left stranded. Emergency services have been working throughout the morning to rescue drivers and assist residents trapped in flooded buildings. Authorities have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
According to the regional weather agency, more than 100 litres of rain per square metre fell in just a few hours, overwhelming the city’s drainage system. Schools across several municipalities have suspended classes, and local businesses are reporting significant damage due to water entering shops and warehouses. Officials warn that further storms are expected later in the day, which could worsen the situation.
