Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, known for his elaborate command of the English language, sparked a social media buzz with his poetic description of idli. His post on X drew widespread attention and led food delivery company Swiggy to send him a special treat in response. How it all started Tharoor posted on X after coming across a remark that called idli “steamed regret.” Defending the South Indian dish, he wrote, “A truly great idli is a cloud, a whisper, a perfect dream of the perfectibility of human civilisation. It’s a sublime creation, a delicate, weightless morsel of rice and lentil, steamed to an ethereal fluffiness that melts on the tongue. With the right accompaniments, it is the culinary equivalent of a Beethoven symphony, a Tagore sangeet, a Husain painting, a Tendulkar century.” The post quickly went viral, with users praising both his eloquence and his tribute to the traditional dish. How Swiggy reacted to the viral post Swiggy responded to the viral moment by delivering idlis to the Congress MP. The company posted photos of its delivery partners handing over the packaged food to Tharoor.
