Keshorn Walcott created history on Thursday (September 18) at the Tokyo National Centre as he won a gold medal in the 2025 World Athletics Championship in a major surprise, as Anderson Peters won the silver medal, while the other three favourites in Julian Webber (5th), Neeraj Chopra (8th), and Arshad Nadeem (10th) failed to even make the podium. The 32-year-old became the world champion for the first time in his career. Infact, this was his first medal of any colour at the Athletics World Championships. Quite incredible, Walcott has become a world champion, 12 years after he won the Olympic gold in 2012 during the London games. He had also won the bronze medal in 2016, but since then has won no medal in any major competition. The Trinidad and Tobago star became the second-oldest world champion in history behind the Czech Republic star Jan Zelenzy in 2001, 24 years ago. He is the only teenager to win an Olympic gold in the discipline. In the world championships, the youngest-ever winner is South Africa’s Marius Corbett (21 years, 313 days) who achieved the feat in 1997 at Athens.
