Sarah Sherman has set her debut comedy special at HBO.
Titled after her vulgar alter ego, “Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh” will premiere on the cable network and HBO Max in December.
In the special, the “Saturday Night Live” star “rips off the straitjacket, unleashing a festering hour of bodily fluids, open-wound confessionals, and jokes that will leave skid marks on your soul,” per HBO.
Take it from Sherman, who cautions: “Word to the wise – don’t watch while eating.”
On Saturday, Sherman will kickstart her fifth season on “SNL,” where she’s known for her offbeat sketches and “Weekend Update” appearances. In 2023, she appeared in Adam Sandler’s “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” and she’s set so star in the upcoming Sandler-produced Netflix movie “Roommates.” She opened for Sandler at Madison Square Garden earlier this month, and she’s known for her popular live show “Helltrap Nightmare.”
“If a special could feel like plugging directly into a live wire – this is definitely it! Sarah’s first special is so distinctly her own. She’s hysterically funny, wildly creative and has a kind of fearless audacity that makes this special truly unforgettable,” said Nina Rosenstein, EVP of HBO programming for late night and specials.
“Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh” is executive produced by Sherman alongside “SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels, Hilary Marx and Taylor Segal for Broadway Video; Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Josh Safdie for Central; Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science; and Jack Bensinger. The special is directed by Cody Critcheloe, known for his music project Ssion.
