Clever Creature has optioned remake rights to three titles from the Roger and Julie Corman library through its sister company Fast Motion Films.
The Toronto-based distribution outfit will reimagine “The Haunting” (1992), “The Terror Within” (1989) and “Battle Queen 2020” (2001) for contemporary audiences, with each film planned for both traditional 2D theatrical release and immersive formats.
The deal was finalized during the Toronto Film Festival and structured between Fast Motion Films Inc. and ACE Film HK Limited Entertainment, with Clever Creature leading international sales efforts. Hong Kong producer Mike Leeder brokered the agreement. China-based Ace FILM HK Company Limited and Shout! Studios, a Radial Entertainment company, control select titles from Corman’s New Horizon library.
“These films embody the spirit of Roger and Julie Corman: daring, inventive, and unapologetically bold,” said Michaelangelo Masangkay, principal of Clever Creature. “We are not just remaking them – we’re reimagining them for an era where audiences crave both the communal experience of the theatre and the deeply personal immersion of new media platforms.”
The remakes will prioritize contemporary storytelling, elevated production values and fresh creative voices while maintaining the raw energy of the originals. The immersive versions are being designed to transport audiences into gothic horror, post-apocalyptic survival and futuristic rebellion settings.
Roger Corman launched the careers of numerous acclaimed directors and actors. Julie Corman, a pioneering American independent producer, has co-produced hundreds of films alongside Roger and independently produced over 30 films.
Fast Motion Films, financed by Salt Media, previously produced “Demon House” starring Michael Paré, an immersive feature film. The company’s principals have credits including “Believer,” “Lost Girl” and “Darknet.”
