Barcelona legend eyes Ruben Amorim's Man United job

A former Barcelona coach has reportedly thrown his hat in the ring for the Manchester United job.

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez is reportedly open to replacing Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager, with the Portuguese tactician struggling to overturn the results.

Xavi, who led Barcelona to a league title in his first full season in charge before losing his job the following campaign after openly criticising the club’s ambitions in the transfer market, has been out of work since 2022.

According to Fabrizio, he has been studying the Premier League and will accept the Manchester United job at a moment’s notice, despite the Red Devils’ current crisis.

Amorim’s struggles

The 40-year-old took charge at Manchester United in November, replacing interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who took charge after Erik ten Hag was fired.

The Dutchman led the Red Devils to 8th place, their worst position at the time. However, under Amorim, they sank even deeper, finishing 15th while losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

Their fortunes have not improved this season, managing only two wins all season and getting knocked out of the EFL Cup by Grimsby.

After the latest defeat to Brentford, the calls for the former Sporting manager’s termination intensified, and Xavi is said to desire the job.

Meanwhile, as Pulse Sports reported, INEOS are not prepared to part with the former Portugal international. They expressed their vote of confidence in Amorim even with the spate of losses.
