Bidar (Karnataka): Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra, accompanied by senior party leaders, visited flood-affected areas in Bidar on Monday, where heavy rains and water release from Maharashtra reservoirs have left farmers in severe distress.
Vijayendra seeks urgent relief measures
During his visit, Vijayendra expressed concern over the plight of farmers and families affected by the floods. He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to act without delay, providing both relief and compensation to those impacted.
“I, along with our LoP Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, senior MLAs, and former minister Prabhu Chauhan, are visiting the affected areas of Bidar. Farmers are in great distress due to heavy rains, since water has been released from Maharashtra reservoirs,” Vijayendra told ANI.
He drew parallels with former CM B S Yediyurappa’s swift action during past floods, stressing that Siddaramaiah should follow the same model. “When Yediyurappa was CM, he travelled across Karnataka and immediately released relief without waiting for Central government funds. I demand Siddaramaiah acts in the same manner,” Vijayendra said.
Schools shut in Kalaburagi amid orange alert
Meanwhile, heavy rains also affected neighbouring Kalaburagi district. On September 27, following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Department of School Education declared holidays for schools across the district for September 27 and 28.
The Deputy Director (Administration) of the Department of School Education cited student safety as the reason for the precautionary measure.
Government officials assess damage
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) and Kalaburagi district in-charge, Priyank Kharge, visited flood-affected areas in the district, meeting locals and listening to their grievances. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the RDPR department, Kharge assured affected families that the government was closely monitoring the situation and relief measures would follow.
With farmers and rural communities in Bidar and Kalaburagi struggling under the impact of relentless rainfall, political leaders across parties are stepping up visits to affected areas. While the BJP has pressed for urgent relief, the state government’s response will be closely watched in the coming days as Karnataka grapples with flood-induced damage.
