‘Overwhelming response to Cauvery Aarti and adventure sports’

The response to the ongoing Cauvery Aarti and water-based adventure sports has made Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) the focal point of this year’s Dasara in Mandya.

Though the official celebrations of Srirangapatna Dasara concluded on Sunday, the festival vibe continues to linger due to the novelty of the Aarti at the KRS, coupled with adventure sports that will go on till October 2.

The authorities have claimed that these events have brought in a new vibrancy to the tourism sector. The Cauvery Aarti is modelled on the famous Ganga Aarti and there were a slew of cultural programmes that were part of the event.

On Sunday, Swami Muktidananda of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysuru, who took part in the Cauvery Aarti, said that in India, it was a time-honoured tradition and culture to pay respect to the rivers and worship nature. He said Cauvery is the lifeline of the people of South Karnataka and millions in the downstream, and this event should be an important component of Dasara in future.

The District in-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy said the Cauvery Aarti was being conducted in a symbolic manner this year as some people had approached court opposing the event. On Sunday, the third day of the Cauvery Aarti saw a sea of humanity witnessing the event. Adding a dash of festival zing to the Cauvery Aarti was the cultural programmes organised to mark the occasion apart from a laser show.

Alongside the Cauvery Aarti, several water sports, including rafting, was being conducted at the KRS and was drawing overwhelming response from the tourists. While adventure sports are energising the youth, water sports are offering families a unique and memorable experience.

The officials said water sports at the KRS have received an extraordinary response from tourists. With the blend of adventure, entertainment, and culture, the KRS is scripting a new chapter in tourism, they added. Nearly 80 games have been introduced, creating opportunities for visitors of all ages, said the officials.
