Soha Ali Khan has always kept family close, but her bond with brother Saif Ali Khan and sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan wasn’t instant. In a new interview, she opened up about how those relationships have taken shape over the years.

Soha admitted that distance and age made it difficult to connect with Saif as children. “We were hardly under the same roof growing up, because there’s a nine-year difference between us. And by the time I was born, he was pretty much on his way to boarding school in England,” she said.
But things shifted with time. “Now, it’s completely different. Ever since moving to the city, and I had lived with him for some time when I first moved here, and then quickly moved out and got my own place. But we connect on many levels… He’s a very different person to I am. But we have lots in common, lots of things that perhaps you feel other people may not get.”
For Soha, maturity made the age gap fade. “That’s what siblings do, right? We have shared trauma, shared experiences, shared parents… Now, when you’re like 46 and 55, then the age gap seems less and less.”
On building trust with Kareena Kapoor
When asked about Kareena, Soha explained that their bond took time to develop into something real. “I feel that Kareena is an incredibly genuine person. One of the things that matters most to her is family. She is a very hands-on parent, wife, daughter, sister, and so many other things.”
She continued, “We have known each other for many years, but it has taken time, as I think any genuine relationship does… I feel like sometimes it takes time to build trust and to get to know someone and to have an independent relationship with them outside of, you know, your husband. So I feel like that has happened… such that I feel like we have an independent relationship and there are many things that we connect over. For example, you know, I think being really good daughters.”
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot on 16 October 2012 in Mumbai after a five-year relationship. Their wedding was a private yet star-studded affair, spread across multiple functions including a registered marriage, nikaah, and lavish receptions.
