Haruna Iddrisu ‘beats’ Asiedu Nketiah, Ato Forson in latest Info Analytics poll

The latest poll by Global Info Analytics has put the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, in a commanding lead in the race to find the next presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after President John Dramani Mahama leaves office.

The poll, which was released on Monday, September 29, 2025, showed that nearly 30% of Ghanaian voters want Haruna Iddrisu to take over from President Mahama as the leader of the NDC.

The education minister leads his closest contender, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, by nearly six percentage points.

Poll predicts ‘tight’ race among Haruna Iddrisu, Asiedu Nketiah and Ato Forson to succeed Mahama

Asiedu Nketiah garnered a little over 24% of the votes in the poll, with the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, coming in third with over 18% of the votes.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, followed with over 10% of the votes.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs took the fifth position, with over 8% of voters saying he should lead the NDC after Mahama.

The remaining contenders in the race got 2% of the votes and below.

Haruna Iddrisu most favourite to lead the NDC?

“In the race to lead the NDC, the poll continues to show Haruna Iddrisu leading the pack with 30%, Asiedu Nketiah 24%, Ato Forson 18%, Julius Debrah 10%, Okudjeto Ablakwa 8%, Eric Opoku 2%, Joshua Alabi 2%, Armah Kofi Buah 2%, Kwame Awuah-Darko 2%, Spio-Garbrah 1% and Okoe Vanderpuije 0.1%,” a summary of the poll results read.

The poll also showed that Haruna Iddrisu was the favourite among supporters of the NDC on who should lead the party in the 2025 election.

“However, in a three-horse race without Ato Forson, the poll shows Haruna Iddrisu on 45%, Asiedu Nketiah, 37% and Julius Debrah, 18%. Among NDC voters, Haruna Iddrisu is on 47%, Asiedu Nketiah, 39% and Julius Debrah, 14%. In the swing regions, Haruna Iddrisu has 48%, Asiedu Nketiah, 37% and Julius Debrah, 15%.

“But in a three-horse race without Haruna Iddrisu, the race is virtually tied between Asiedu Nketiah and Ato Forson. Asiedu Nketiah has 40%, Ato Forson 38% and Julius Debrah 22%. Among NDC voters, the race is nearly tied with Asiedu Nketiah, 42%, Ato Forson 41% and Julius Debrah, 17%. In the swing regions, Ato Forson leads with 47%, Asiedu Nketiah, 38% and Julius Debrah, 15%,” it added.
