Directors’ institute to strengthen corporate governance

The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria (CIoD Nigeria) is leaving no stone unturned in its advocacy for the creation of a robust ecosystem for ethical leadership and sound corporate governance as guiding principles for navigating the complex and changing dynamics in the world of business.

Accordingly, this year’s edition of the Annual Directors’ Conference (ADC2025), the institute’s flagship gathering of business leaders, policymakers, regulators, and thought leaders will address pressing issues facing the economy, with a focus on good governance, inclusivity, and enterprise sustainability.

The two-day conference, which will be hybrid, allowing both physical and virtual participation, is scheduled for 22–23 Octobertober 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel, and will be held under the theme: Leading Through Change: Building Sustainable and Inclusive Enterprises.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, President & Chairman of the Governing Council of CIoD Nigeria, Otunba Adetunji A. Oyebanji, described the conference as the cornerstone of the Institute’s advocacy efforts, noting that its theme reflects the urgent need for leaders to navigate disruption, embrace innovation, and foster inclusive, sustainable growth.

He said the traditional business models that sustained business leaders in Nigeria for generations are being challenged, and public trust, the bedrock of directors’ profession, is constantly under scrutiny.

“This period of change is not merely a threat; it is a profound opportunity—an opportunity to forge a new path, redefine our purpose, and build institutions that are not only resilient but more impactful and reflective of the world we serve,” Oyebanji stated.

He emphasised that the conference will provide a platform for directors and policymakers to address pressing issues facing the economy, with a focus on good governance, inclusivity, and sustainability.

“Corporate governance facilitates the identification of opportunities, supports talent retention, and ensures that vital sectors such as agriculture, health, education, energy, and technology can effectively contribute to a diversified economy.

“By championing good governance, we unlock the potential for sustainable development that benefits all citizens,” Oyebanji said.

This is how we contribute as directors and leaders to the urgent task of nation building.”

The conference will feature an impressive lineup of dignitaries and speakers, including Special Guest of Honour, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Conference Chairman/Chairman, Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman; Keynote Speaker/Group Managing Director, Sahara Power Group, Mr. Kola Adesina.

Guests of Honour include Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bosun Tijani; Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack; and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

The programme will also include a special highlight: the “Business Meets Government Dinner” on Thursday, October 23, 2025, providing an exclusive platform for collaboration and dialogue between business leaders and government officials.

With a carefully curated lineup of plenaries, panel sessions, and networking opportunities, ADC2025 promises to equip directors, policymakers, and stakeholders with the insights and tools to navigate uncertainty, embrace innovation, and build sustainable enterprises.
