The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan in Dubai ended in more than just a thrilling cricketing battle on the field, but it also sparked a political storm. After India’s five-wicket win over Pakistan on September 28, a war of words erupted between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on social media.
Notably, Mohsin Naqvi also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman. Naqvi slammed PM Modi for dragging politics into the game as he mentioned “Operation Sindoor” in his congratulatory post for the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team.

Actually, PM Modi drew a bold comparison between cricket and the battlefield. He linked the Asia Cup 2025 final to “Operation Sindoor,” a military strike carried out by the Indian Armed Forces after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives.

The honorable Indian Prime Minister has stressed that just like the “Operation Sindoor,” the result in Dubai was no different, as India once again thrashed Pakistan. PM Modi posted on X: “#OperationSindoor on the games field. The outcome is the same—India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”
Well, Mohsin Naqvi, who was already angry over India’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophy and winner’s medals from him after the final, launched a scathing attack on the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and this time, it was not just about the game.

The PCB chairman accused PM Modi of ruining the spirit of cricket by linking the Asia Cup 2025 final to war. The Pakistani minister also claimed that no match result could erase Pakistan’s past triumphs over India on the battlefield.
Naqvi reposted Modi’s message on X and wrote, “If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan’s hands. No cricket match can rewrite that truth. Dragging war into sport only exposes desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game.”
However, Naqvi’s claim doesn’t match the history, as India has never lost a full-scale war to Pakistan. Even India’s triumph in the 1971 war led to the creation of Bangladesh, while Pakistan faced defeats in the 1965 war and the 1999 Kargil war. And in May 2025, India successfully carried out Operation Sindoor.

BCCI to file a strong protest after Mohsin Naqvi took Asia Cup trophy and medals to the hotel
Meanwhile, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that they would officially lodge a protest with the ICC and ACC, as Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy and medals to his hotel after the team refused to take them from him due to India-Pakistan conflicts.
Saikia stated, “So far as the trophy is concerned, trophy distribution, India cannot take the trophy from the person who is waging a war against our country. We have taken a decision not to accept the trophy, but that does not allow the gentleman to take away the trophy and the medals to his hotel.”
