The New York Giants started off the 2025 NFL season with a disappointing 21-6 loss to the NFC East rival Washington Commanders. What made the loss even worse was the fact that the Giants didn’t even score a touchdown during the game.Despite having opportunities to do so, New York couldn’t capitalize. One of the biggest mistakes throughout the course of the season opener was the Giants’ decision to avoid running the football at the one-yard line. That decision was not received well by running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.Read more: Ravens’ Derrick Henry Sends Scary Message to Browns After Trash TalkLooking back at that play, Tracy spoke out and sent a very pointed message calling out offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s decision not to run the ball.As shared by the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, Tracy provided clear criticism for the decision.”I have to do what’s called, but I definitely said we needed to run the ball on the 1-yard line. I feel like everyone felt the same — whether it’s offensive line, quarterback, running back. To do the play-action pass off the 1-yard line, you have to run the ball first,” Tracy said. It’s easy to look back at a decision and criticize it when it doesn’t work. However, Tracy has a good point. Throwing the ball at the goal line is usually not a recipe for success, especially when a running back like Tracy is more than capable of finding the end zone.Tracy did not have a great game in Week 1. He carried the football 10 times for 24 yards. The passing game wasn’t great either, as Russell Wilson completed 17 of his 37 pass attempts for 168 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.Putting together the kind of offensive performance that New York did was embarrassing. It showed clear issues that the team will need to fix before its Week 2 matchup on the road against the Dallas Cowboys.Read more: Rob Gronkowski Doesn’t Hold Back on the Kansas City ChiefsIt will be interesting to see how the team bounces back offensively. The Cowboys will not be an easy team to beat, especially on the road. For the Giants, being able to put the ball in the end zone will be a must.Hopefully, the coaching staff will be able to make the necessary adjustments for the team to get back on track. Tracy was clearly frustrated after Week 1, but a bounce-back win against Dallas would help fix that frustration quickly. For more on the New York Giants and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
