Man and woman (20s) die after crashes in Cork and Galway

The collision which claimed the life of the woman in her 20s occurred at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road in Cork at approximately 6:15pm on Thursday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Her body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The road was closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions remain in place.

A man has also died and another is being treated for serious injuries following a car crash on the N17, Co Galway, this morning.

The crash occurred this morning, September 19, shortly after 7am on the N17 at Drum, Milltown, and involved a car and a van.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem examination will take place in University Hospital Galway (UHG).

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was airlifted to UHG for treatment of serious injuries.

The road is currently closed between Milltown and Ballindine pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place at the Milltown road roundabout in Tuam, Co Galway and in Ballindine, Co Mayo.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these collisions to contact them.
