Letter: Only the people can rise up against dictatorship

Our Constitution is the near-perfect product of brilliant-minded settlers who decided to create a democracy never seen before in world history. In their wisdom, they created three separate branches of government as a counterbalance to each other — protections against the absurd possibility that a single person would rule over all. And this was enough from the nation’s founding until 2024.

As America spread westward, we relied on our Constitution to protect all except the indigenous people who were the rightful owners of their tribal lands for thousands of years. The Declaration of Independence proclaims rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all, and as time passed, intelligent individuals protested and we added, by amendment, women’s rights, voting rights and civil rights.

Those brave founders excluded how a nation would fix any damage done by a dictatorial person, perhaps purposely. The answer: We the people.
