BENGALURU: A 37-year-old man allegedly stabbed and sexually harassed a 24-year-old woman at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in White Rose Layout, Whitefield, in the early hours of Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Sai Babu Chennuru. Police have registered both a complaint and a counter-complaint, and Chennuru has been arrested. The woman, Rithu (name changed), a private bank employee, gave a statement to police from her hospital bed. She said she had been living in the PG for the past three months.Here’s what happenedAround 3am, the woman said she heard someone ring her doorbell. Assuming it was a friend, she opened the door, but Sai allegedly entered and locked it from inside. He then pulled out a knife and threatened her.She collapsed after he stabbed her on the left side of her back. According to her complaint, Sai then stripped her and took photos on his mobile phone. He allegedly demanded that she have sex with him.When she refused, he threatened to kill her and himself. She told him she was on her periods and asked him to return the next day if he wanted intercourse.Sai then allegedly demanded Rs 70,000. The woman said she told him she would borrow money from friends in the morning. Sai allegedly took her phone and transferred Rs 14,000 from her digital payment app to his account.He left the room after warning her not to reveal the incident, threatening to send her photos to her parents and friends if she disobeyed.Later, she called a male friend and was taken to a hospital around 7am. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under charges of attempt to murder, assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment, and extortion.However, Sai also filed a cross-complaint against the woman on September 17.Sai, a native of Andhra Pradesh, claimed he and the woman had been in a relationship for the past two months.In his complaint, Sai alleged they had a fight after which he left the PG. Upon returning at 10.30pm, he said the PG management confronted him.He claimed Pradeep and Shiva from the PG management, along with three others, verbally abused and assaulted him. He alleged he sustained severe injuries on his hands, legs and face, and lost consciousness.Sai said that around 6am the next day, with the help of other PG residents, he called the police. Officers then took him to a private hospital. A case of assault has since been registered against five people, including Pradeep and Shiva.“Sai has been arrested and further investigation is under progress. Prima facie, it is found that both Sai and the woman were friends,” a senior officer said.
